3rd terrorist killed on Day 3 of Kulgam operation | India News – Times of India

SRINAGAR: Security forces gunned down another terrorist of The Resistance Force (TRF) holed up in a house in J&K’s Kulgam district Wednesday, following the killing of the banned outfit’s “area commander” Basit Dar and an unidentified associate the day before in the same Redwani locality.
A police officer said the terrorist killed on the third day of the operation has been identified as Momin Gulzar, a native of downtown Srinagar. He said the gunfight began Monday evening after security forces surrounded a house in Redwani following information about terrorists hiding there. Although the operation was temporarily suspended at night, it resumed Tuesday morning and Dar was among those gunned down during the confrontation.
A resident of Redwani, Dar had been missing from his home for the past three years before joining TRF, a front organisation of Lashkar-e-Taiba. He was allegedly involved in a dozen murders, particularly targeted killings, over the past two years. NIA had announced a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head.
There was initial confusion Tuesday when police sources announced the conclusion of the operation following Dar’s death. However, it later emerged that a third gunman was still hiding in the area. He was traced during a search of nearby houses and another round of shooting began Wednesday, after a pause of 20 hours.
